During the film’s press conference held on October 8 in Mandaluyong City, the 28-year-old vlogger shared that he never imagined becoming an actor when he started creating humorous videos in 2020. His original goal was simply to make people laugh and help them relieve stress.
“Wala, gusto lang namin magpasaya. Wala kaming ibang pakay eh,” he said.
Malupiton also stars alongside comedienne Analyn Barro and his real-life friends from Kolokoys TV, who are likewise making their acting debuts. Although he admitted that the experience came with challenges, he was happy to work with his friends on their first movie.

The independently produced film was shot approximately two years ago. Malupiton recalled being surprised when director Niokz Arcega chose him to play the leading man, admitting that he initially doubted his acting abilities but was grateful for the opportunity.
“Hindi ko rin alam eh kung bakit ako napili ni direk maging leading man eh. Sabi ko, ’Sure po kayo?’ (laughs)” he recalled.
However, the most interesting revelation during the press conference was the story behind the name that made him recognizable online.
Malupiton explained that his screen name was inspired by Boss Ka-Reppa, a Bicolano vlogger and comedian whom he used to watch. He became amused whenever the fellow content creator said the word “malupiton,” even though he initially did not understand what it meant.
“Pag nababanggit niya yung word na malupiton, natatawa ako kahit hindi ko siya maintindihan,” he shared.
Because the word made him laugh, he eventually decided to use it as his own name without knowing that it would become popular.
“Kaya yun yung naiisip ko na yun yung ipangalan ko sa sarili ko. Yun na yung naging name ko. Hindi ko naman alam na puputok yun eh (laughs),” he said.
Malupiton added that he later learned the word could mean something like “malupit” or “magaling,” although he was not entirely certain about its exact meaning.
“Yung meaning hindi ko rin alam nung una. yung meaning pala ng malupiton is malupit, magaling, hindi ko rin sure eh. I-search niyo na lang po. Mga ganun,” he explained.
What began as a name inspired by another vlogger eventually became his signature identity. Now, as he ventures into filmmaking, Malupiton continues to embrace the unexpected opportunities that have come from his simple desire to entertain people.

Joel Ravanera, professionally known online as Malupiton (or "Bossing"), is a Filipino digital creator, comedian, and entertainer known for his viral street-style skits and signature catchphrase, "Bossing! Kamusta ang buhay-buhay?" After gaining massive popularity across Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube alongside the content group Kolokoys TV, he transitioned into acting and media projects.
In another report, Analyn Barro credited Bubble Gang for helping her develop her acting skills as she prepares to headline her first film, He's Dating a Boldstar, alongside Malupiton. She described her character as an aspiring actress who initially pursues a career as a boldstar. Analyn also recalled her father's surprise upon learning the movie's title and clarified that it is not a nũde film.
Meanwhile, Analyn opened up about her changing perspective on the term “boldstar” as she takes on her first leading role in the romantic comedy. The Kapuso actress acknowledged that the word initially had a strong connotation for her, but encouraged viewers to watch the film before judging it based on its title. She also emphasized that humor, talent, and skill can make a person sexy without having to reveal their body.
