“Nasa ano ako nu’n, lock in taping. Medyo masakit kasi 'tong part na 'to. So medyo itong part na 'to ng life ko is talagang medyo mabigat,” he shared.

His father died of heart failure in 2020, while his siblings Emmanuel and Teresa passed away in 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19.

Arcilla admitted that losing his youngest sibling was particularly painful because he had expected to have her by his side as they grew older.

One of his most painful memories involved Teresa’s medical emergency, which unfolded while he was still at work. Arcilla recalled speaking over the phone with his twin nieces and trying to guide them through the crisis.

Ako 'yung nagbibigay ng instruction,” he recounted.

He also remembered the confusion surrounding his sister’s arrival at the hospital and the devastating news that followed.

“Lahat 'yun nasa taping ako,” Arcilla said tearfully.

He recalled hearing from his niece that Teresa had waved at her with a smile before she stopped breathing.

So sabi ko, nasa gitna ako ng taping,” he shared.

The consecutive losses left Arcilla questioning whether he could continue working, especially after his father and older brother had also died.

Despite the grief, Arcilla continued his work on On the Job: The Missing 8, directed by Erik Matti. Before the Venice awards ceremony, the actor also experienced mild COVID-19 symptoms.

As the awards night approached, Arcilla admitted that he had already looked through the list of winners and hoped his name would be among them.

In another report, John Arcilla voiced his frustration with Filipino voters and government officials in a Facebook post following flooding caused by the Habagat. The award-winning actor questioned whether some public officials understood their responsibilities to citizens and criticized the tendency to idolize leaders despite allegations of poor public service. His remarks came after he previously called out voters who continue to support officials accused of corruption.
