The interview was uploaded to Toni's YouTube channel on Friday, October 9, 2026. During their conversation, Toni asked Wilbert whether joining Hashtags and becoming a regular member had boosted his confidence and made him believe that more opportunities would follow.
Wilbert explained that his optimism did not last long after he joined the group.
“'Yon po 'yong tingin ko noong first week. Sa second week, hindi na po. Hindi po ako napapansin, e. Ang daming pogi sa Hashtags.”

He recalled comparing himself with the other members and feeling that he did not measure up in terms of looks.
“Syempre sa isang buong group, ikukumpara mo talaga. Parang sino dito 'yong mukhang butiki. Ako po 'yong mukhang butiki doon,” Wilbert shared.
Despite these insecurities, the actor said he continued to believe in his abilities, particularly his talent for singing. He also remembered how his former manager pushed him to work harder because his looks were not necessarily his strongest advantage compared with the other Hashtags members.
“May talent po ako, e. Iyon na lang po 'yong pambato ko that time. Kasi 'yong RM ko dati, medyo harsh. Sabi niya sa'kin, dapat daw na sipagan ko kasi lugi daw ako… sa visuals kumpara sa Hashtags,” he said.
Wilbert clarified that his manager's straightforward advice came from a place of concern and was intended to help him build discipline in an industry where opportunities could easily disappear.
“Pero ano siya, coming from love. Na parang dapat galingan mo, hindi ka magkamali sa mga sayaw, hindi ka ma-late. Kasi baka mahanapan ka ng rason para matanggal ka. Iyon 'yong pumasok sa akin, which is na-train po ako na hindi ma-late, na galingan lagi, na pahalagahan bawat chance na mabigay sa aking exposure.”
Rather than allowing the experience to discourage him, Wilbert used it as motivation to improve his craft and make the most of every opportunity he received.
When the pandemic hit and Hashtags eventually disbanded, he dedicated his time to personal growth. He worked out, grew his hair longer, wrote songs, and continued developing his talents in preparation for his eventual return to the entertainment industry.
Born and raised in Davao del Sur by a modest family that supported his passion for the arts, Wilbert Ross first gained widespread recognition as a member of the all-male dance group Hashtags on ABS-CBN’s It's Showtime. Building on that television success, he has expanded his career into a versatile entertainer, carving out a name as a solo singer-songwriter under Viva Music, a comedic and dramatic actor, and a popular digital content creator.
In another report, Bea Binene described her relationship with Wilbert Ross as “Happy” during a discussion that caught the attention of Candy Pangilinan on KALURKS!. Wilbert had earlier described their status as “in the works” on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda. Bea also shared that Wilbert initially contributed ideas for her recent gig before eventually offering to direct it himself.
