The issue began after Gelli shared her thoughts on the controversy involving Patrick Garcia and Jennylyn Mercado during her guest appearance on Chika Cart on GTV. She emphasized that the children involved should not be further affected by the dispute between the adults.

The actor was subsequently asked by entertainment reporters if he had any anger toward Gelli because of his reaction.
“Wala naman akong nararamdaman na galit kahit kanino,” Dennis said.
Clarifying that his response came from his instinct as a father to protect his family.
Dennis explained that his decision to speak out on social media was his own. Although some of his posts were delivered through humor, they were quickly interpreted by netizens as reactions to the ongoing controversy.
Walang ibang magtatanggol dahil ako yung padre de pamilya. Yun 'yong talagang pangunahing responsibilidad ng ama. Bilang tumatayong tatay ng pamilya, gagawin mo lahat para protektahan sila at to all cost.”
The actor stressed that his main motivation was to shield his family from further hurt and prevent the situation from causing additional trauma. He also made it clear that he does not want the controversy to continue affecting the children involved.
“Huwag na natin damay ang mga bata dahil, at the end of the day, sila yung buhay natin, sila yung pinoprotektahan natin, sila yung mga mahal natin. At ayaw nating masangkot sila sa ganitong klaseng at ayaw natin, alam nyon, masangkot sila sa ganitong klaseng kaguluhan pa,” aniya.
Dennis also appeared to signal that he wanted to move forward from the issue. In one of his social media posts, he encouraged people to choose respect instead of continuing the hostility surrounding the controversy.
“Respeto ang mananaig today❤️ Stop the hate and spread love💛 Remember… No Bashing, its 4 Fun💚” sabi niya sa isang post.
Despite his earlier reaction to Gelli’s comments, Dennis maintained that he does not hold a grudge against her or anyone else involved. His statements instead centered on his role as a husband and father and his desire to keep his family, particularly the children, away from the continuing controversy.
