The heartfelt proposal took place shortly after the couple paid their respects at the grave of Aiko’s late father, Jimi Melendez.
"Today is a big day for me and for my honey kasi at least, makikilala ko na rin ang kanyang tatay, dahil pupunta kami ngayon sa puntod ng kanyang tatay, si Tito Jimi. Pupuntahan namin siya kasi gusto ni honey dun pumunta ng mas maaga kasi pag November 1, marami ng tao, masikip."
After speaking to her late father, Onemig, seemingly nervous about proposing finally took it in him to get down on one knee after taking the ring out of his pocket.

The emotional milestone caught Aiko by surprise, turning a solemn family visit into an unforgettable turning point in their relationship.
"Will you marry me? Hinihingi ko ang iyong kamay," Onemig asked, catching Aiko by surprise who even hit him with her bouquet of roses. "Tito, pinukpok po ako ng anak niyo oh," he said to which Aiko asked, "Seryoso ba yan?"
Onemig, who chose to keep the moment fun and lighthearted, asked, "Ano sa tingin mo? Hindi? Ikaw! Akala mo lagi nagpapatawa ako, diba? Ba't akala mo lagi nagpapatawa ako, porket lagi akong naka-smile."
The actress eventually said yes, still completely in disbelief over what had happened as well.
Eventually, Aiko was spotted giving Onemig a warm and tight hug after he put the ring on her finger.
