David Licauco, pressured gampanan ang role sa PH adaptation ng isang sikat na Korean drama

• David Licauco admitted he had not watched the original Fight For My Way before landing its Filipino adaptation

David Licauco is preparing for a physically demanding role in the Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean series Fight For My Way, but he revealed that he had not actually watched the original series before being cast.

David admitted that although he has long admired South Korean actor Park Seo-joon, he only started watching Fight For My Way after learning that he would star in its local adaptation.

“Di ko siya napanood before, pero I'm a big fan of Park Seo-joon, ilang beses ko na nasabi 'to. My favorite teleserye is Itaewon Class,” David said during the cast reveal held on Monday, September 28.

For the new digital series, David will play Hanz, a Taekwondo prodigy. He will be joined by Ashtine Olviga, Aubrey Caraan, and McCoy de Leon, with Crisanto Aquino serving as director.

To prepare for the character, David has begun undergoing Taekwondo and MMA training. He said his experience with karate as a child gives him some familiarity with the movements required for the role.

“Actually, my first sport ever was karate. When I was eight years old, I was competing before. 'Tapos, nag-basketball. So, noong nag-Taekwondo ako, hindi siya ganun kalayo sa karate.

“Thankfully, medyo naaalala ko pa yung mga kicks, how to punch properly, how to kick properly, and yung stance.

“But definitely, kailangan kong mas pagtrabahuhan. I went to training. I think I had five sessions of MMA and Taekwondo training. I think meron ulit ako as the shoot goes along, meron pa rin.”

Despite the pressure surrounding the project, David said he is grateful for the opportunity and views the pressure positively.

“I'm really thankful for the opportunity. I wouldn't lie na there's pressure, but it's a good pressure. I think mas okay na may pressure ka in something. It just means that the people care about this series.”

Director Crisanto explained that the adaptation will follow the original Fight For My Way while incorporating Filipino elements into the story.

For David, taking on a character associated with Park Seo-joon comes with its own challenge. He acknowledged the Korean actor's stature while emphasizing that he does not intend to simply copy his performance.

“Ang taas, e, Park Seo-joon, alam naman natin na he's a Korean superstar. So ako, kailangan ko gawin 'yung best ko and study 'yung mga nuances niya

“But at the same time, hindi rin sobrang gayang-gaya kasi it will be hard, e. I feel like 'yun 'yung challenge ng mga Korean adaptations for actors.

“I think some way, somehow, gagayahin ko siya. Pero hindi totally, dapat meron pa ring David Licauco's touch.”

David Licauco (born David Alexander Sy Licauco) is a Filipino actor, model, and entrepreneur who rose to widespread fame for his breakthrough portrayal of Fidel Crisostomo Clara in the hit historical fantasy series Maria Clara at Ibarra. In another report, David Licauco addressed the issue surrounding Barbie Forteza’s remarks about Khalil Ramos being her ideal leading man. During a recent contract signing, David looked back on the successful years he shared with Barbie and expressed gratitude for everything they accomplished together.

Meanwhile, David Licauco also addressed the rumors linking him to non-showbiz personality Alex Manalang during a media gathering. When asked about the trips where he and Alex were reportedly spotted together, David chose to keep his response playful and did not go into details about their relationship.
