Regine Velasquez-Alcasid has shared her candid thoughts on the growing practice of concertgoers recording and uploading full performances online, saying she understands that it is difficult to prevent but personally does not agree with it.

The Asia’s Songbird discussed the issue during a press conference for her upcoming FINALE concert after being asked about videos of live performances being posted online. The topic had previously sparked discussions and mixed reactions among social media users.
Regine acknowledged that stopping people from recording may be difficult in the current digital landscape.
“I don't think we can avoid it,” she began.

Despite recognizing that reality, the veteran singer explained that she has personal reservations about the practice, particularly because recordings made from the audience may not accurately represent what happened inside the venue.
“Personally, I don't like it because one, the sound is awful. [And] two, the audience is different. I really believe na 'yung internet audience doesn't want to be entertained because they're actually judges. They just want to judge, they don't really want to watch. They do not want to be entertained. They want to nitpick the performance,” she expressed.
For Regine, the difference between experiencing a concert firsthand and watching a recording online can significantly affect how a performance is perceived.
“As a performer, I feel bad about it. That shouldn't be that way,” she added.
She further explained that a live performance naturally contains elements that cannot always be reproduced through a recording.
“A performance shouldn't be judged, especially a live performance. You cannot compare a live performance to a recorded one...A live performance has adrenaline. You breathe, you have flats and sharps, but at the same time, with all those imperfections, doon nanggagaling 'yung feelings. Doon nanggagaling 'yung puso. Doon mo mararamdaman kung anong nararamdaman ng performer.”
The singer emphasized that mistakes and imperfections are not necessarily flaws that should be singled out by viewers.
“Ang totoong mga performers, meron talagang mga imperfections...Human beings are not perfect. They're supposed to make mistakes...create those little imperfections.”
Regine also pointed out that people who want to hear a polished version of a song already have the option of listening to officially released recordings rather than relying on videos captured during concerts.
Another concern she raised was how recording throughout a show could prevent concertgoers from fully experiencing the performance themselves.
“Also, don't you find it kind of distracting while you're watching, you're holding a phone? How do you actually feel the live impact of the song if you're holding a phone? You're watching in your little screen [when you can] actually put your phone down so that you can feel the impact while you're watching the performance.”
According to Regine, the emotional impact of seeing an artist perform live may be different when a person is focused on capturing the moment through a device.
“You're not going to be able to feel that same feeling...that's just my personal opinion,” she maintained.
Regine is set to take the stage for her sold-out FINALE concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 17, 18, and 19.
The upcoming shows mark another major concert event for the veteran performer, whose comments highlight the difference between preserving a concert through a recording and experiencing the performance as it happens onstage.
