As she gears up for her highly anticipated and sold-out "Finale" concert series, the legendary music icon made the heartbreaking yet inspiring revelation during a press conference held last September 25 in Quezon City.
Instead of hiding behind the glitz and glamour, Regine chose to be incredibly vulnerable, sharing how natural aging has drastically affected her world-famous instrument.
According to a report by the Inquirer, the beloved superstar previously flew to Singapore to have her throat thoroughly checked.

Despite doctors confirming that her vocal cords were perfectly clean and free of polyps, she still experienced terrifying vocal changes due to the loss of estrogen.
Sharing her frightening ordeal, she explained, “I went through something like… it’s called the menopause voice. My vocal cords are actually very clean, there’s no polyp, there’s nothing, but somehow, alam mo ‘yung nagka-crack ‘yung boses ko, and somehow, I cannot control it.”
The condition brought massive emotional distress to the incredibly talented artist. “There was a time, parang nakalimutan kong kumanta, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on with me, but every time I would go and see my doctor, there was nothing wrong,” Regine confessed.
She learned from experts that the condition causes the vocal cords to lose their natural elasticity, a devastating reality for someone who has sung flawlessly for four decades.
Despite the tears, Regine has beautifully embraced this new chapter of her life. She realized her gift never vanished; it merely evolved.
“I still have my voice, it never left; it’s just that it’s in a different form, so I have to work with what I have now. I can no longer be what I used to be 10 or 20 years ago. I can no longer sound like that,” she proudly added.
The emotional weight of the upcoming shows hit her heavily when she finally saw the massive poster for her three-night event.
“I cried, tapos nahiya ako sa asawa ko. I did not want to show him I was being emotional about it. Of course, I am menopausing, so I am more emotional,” she warmly shared, referencing her husband Ogie Alcasid, who sweetly surprised her during the media event.
While "Finale" marks her conscious step away from the grueling pressure of mounting massive solo stage concerts, Regine is definitely not retiring from the entertainment industry.
For her sold-out shows this October 17 to 19, she promises an unforgettable musical journey, completely changing her setlist each night to accommodate her massive discography.
“Ang dami kong kanta. Hirap pumili. So ginawa namin, iba-ibang repertoire each night. Siyempre may naka poste na pare-pareho. Siguro opening and finale song. Pero gitna iba-iba. Para ma-cover ko at least 50 percent,” she revealed.
Although she has completely shut the door on acting for now, loyal fans can still look forward to a special musical project tied to her husband and an upcoming cinematic documentary titled "SONGBIRD: A Regine Velasquez Documentary Film."
