Kuan said she respected Alonzo’s wishes because she did not want the issue to escalate further, particularly while the actress was dealing with the emotional aftermath of the wedding cancellation and Kuan’s eventual resignation as her talent manager.
However, Kuan decided to speak up after a conversation with a fellow talent manager on Friday, August 21. She described the incident as the “third trigger point” that finally pushed her to defend herself.
"A friend of mine, who is also a talent manager, said she is friends with a certain individual — and this is unbelievable — asked her, 'Kaya mo ba awayin si SK?' And she said, 'Bakit? Hindi na nga siya nagsasalita. Kilala ko siya… She called for the truth so I gave her the truth. And I told her everything and she confronted that person,” Kuan said in an interview.

Kuan said the developments had already become too much for her, especially after she had resigned from her position.
“Last Friday was too much! I think that's a bit too much! And I told Bea, I texted her, "Bea, I already resigned. Aren't you guys happy? What do you guys still want.”
Online reports and speculation had previously linked Kuan to the cancellation of Alonzo’s wedding in Spain. Kuan maintained that she did not immediately respond because Alonzo had personally asked her not to make the controversy bigger.
“Noong lumabas article na ako daw ang reason or culprit or meddler kaya na-cancel wedding in Spain. Immediately when I saw it — What is this? She said she did not know. We both know the truth. But sabi niya agad sa 'kin ‘SK, promise you won’t say anything kasi ayoko lumaki pa.’ Siyempre pagbibigyan mo alaga mo na heartbroken. You try to accommodate her wishes, so I kept quiet,” she recalled.
Kuan also emphasized that she made it clear to Alonzo during her resignation that she was not involved in the wedding fallout.
“Noong kinausap ko si Bea when I resigned, I just want to make it clear malinaw na hindi ako nagpa-cancel. She said ‘no — hindi.’ Kahit in jest, did I tell you baka nakalimutan ko lang — she said ‘no, never.’ Meron ako resibo, I can prove hindi ako kasali diyan,” Kuan recalled.
Despite keeping her word, Kuan admitted that she felt hurt by what she perceived as a lack of defense from Alonzo.
“Bea said [when I resigned] ‘how did it come to this?’ I said I don’t know. I have no idea bakit ako sinisiraan non-stop. You never defended me. I did not mean in public, we know hindi siya mahilig magpa-interview. Kahit privately sana. Sa akin, you could have told whoever that is the truth. Wala akong alam d'yan, hindi ako nakialam ever,” she reasoned.
Kuan said she had no intention of repeatedly discussing her resignation, but she warned that continued attacks would eventually force her to protect herself publicly.
“I promised her that I will not make another announcement about the resignation. But I said, one more, tirahin pa ako isa, you are giving me no choice but to defend myself… The least she could have done was to tell these people to stop. Because she knew the truth.”
Although Kuan said she did not blame Alonzo for her decision, she questioned why she continued to be portrayed negatively even after stepping down.
“Ayaw tumigil. Lalo ako tinitira. Patindi na nang patindi. But because I promised her I kept quiet. But in other words she did not allow me to defend myself. I did not take it against her, at the time that is how she felt. Pero nang natuloy na — why am I still the villain. Wala naman ako ginawa. Finally, daw natuloy kasi hindi na nakialam si SK. Ginawa ako kontrabida,” she said.
Kuan’s statements come as speculation surrounding the canceled wedding and her resignation continues to circulate online. She has now publicly maintained that she was neither the cause of the wedding cancellation nor a meddler in the couple’s private affairs.
ABS-CBN News has reached out to Alonzo’s management regarding Kuan’s statements, but they did not comment.
Bea Alonzo (born Phylbert Angelli Ranollo Fagestrom) is an award-winning Filipina actress, host, and entrepreneur. Widely recognized as a Movie Queen of her generation, she built an iconic screen legacy through classic blockbusters like One More Chance before transitioning to a successful digital career and independent business ventures.
In another report, Shirley Kuan rejected allegations that she was against Bea Alonzo’s relationship with Vincent Co, saying she had always wanted the actress to be happy in her personal life. Kuan recalled encouraging Bea to give importance to her relationship and even offered to help end her GMA contract so she could have more time with Vincent.
Meanwhile, Shirley Kuan hit back at allegations that she received a commission from Bea Alonzo and Vincent Co’s prenuptial agreement. The veteran talent manager clarified that she was never given access to the document and did not see any part of its contents.
