Former sexy actress Maui Taylor has opened up about how motherhood completely changed the way she viewed her mother's strict parenting, saying she only truly appreciated her mother's sacrifices after raising children of her own.

During her guest appearance on Your Honor, Maui reflected on the years when she felt frustrated because her mother closely watched over her during acting projects. At the time, she believed her mother's constant presence prevented her from enjoying the independence she wanted as a young woman.
“Ganyan ako noon. Umiiyak ako. Sabi ko, 'Ano ba 'to?' Sabi ko, itong mommy ko, palaging nakabuntot sa akin. Hindi ko maintindihan, siyempre noong bata ako because ang palagi kong iniisip is, 'Give me the freedom, give me the freedom, give me the freedom to do things on my own. 'Yung wala ka sa set, hindi kita kasama.'”
Looking back, Maui admitted that becoming a parent gave her an entirely different perspective. She realized that her mother's protectiveness came from genuine concern and a desire to keep her safe while navigating the entertainment industry at a young age.

“Pero, alam mo 'yun, ito na lang, 'yung nagkaanak na ako, doon ko na na-appreciate na parang, ah, kung hindi ako binantayan, malamang maaga akong nabuntis or what not. Baka may nangyari.”
She said the experience of raising children made her recognize the difficult decisions parents make out of love, even if those choices are not immediately understood by their children.
“Parang ngayon ko lang talaga nari-realize na, 'Ah, okay, naiintindihan ko.'”
Aside from discussing her relationship with her mother, Maui also shared how her three sons see her career in show business today.
Although they know she is an actress, they are far more familiar with the villain roles she has portrayed in television dramas than with the sexy image that made her one of the country's most recognizable stars years ago.
“Actually, alam mo, I don't think they have... No, they have an idea, but they don't know exactly what it is or what it was. Kasi ang tumatak sa mga kids ko ngayon is 'yung pagiging kontrabida ko sa Lolong, pagiging kontrabida ko sa Wish Ko Lang, sa Tadhana, na nakikita kasi nila eh.”
Maui added that her sons frequently ask why she always ends up playing antagonists on screen.
“Kaya ang tanong nila sa akin palagi is, 'Why do you always have to be the villain?'... Siguro may magsasabi na classmate, 'no? For sure. Lalo na ito ngayon, mag-13 na 'yung panganay ko.”
