Robin Padilla breaks silence on Angel Locsin's criticism, says communication remains open

Sen. Robin Padilla has finally spoken about actress Angel Locsin's recent criticisms, saying he still considers her a friend despite their differing views on political issues.

During an interview on the DZAR 1026 News program "Vox Populi Boses ng Bayan" with the Banateros, Padilla was asked about Angel's social media post questioning his political positions, Bandera reported.

The actress had criticized the senator after he declared himself a communist during an impeachment trial in the Senate.

She also questioned his silence on the red-tagging issue involving her, his support for Apollo Quiboloy, and his stance on China, ending her message with, "Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat."

Responding for the first time, Padilla said he and his wife, Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla, decided not to answer Angel's remarks publicly.

"SI Angel Locsin, kaibigan ko 'yan," Padilla said.

He added, "Ang katotohanan sa aming mag-asawa (Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla) nu'ng nabalitaan namin 'yun isa lang ang sinabi naming dalawa, 'Ah baka may pinagdadaanan si Angel, e, kami naman wala, so, siguro intindihin na lang namin 'wag na kaming sumagot, 'wag na kaming magsalita. Kung gusto niya kaming makausap, bukas naman 'yung linya."

During the interview, Padilla was also asked about his previous statement that he had once stayed with members of the New People's Army (NPA). He explained that he went into the mountains in 1995 after a warrant for his arrest was issued, prompting him to flee.

The senator recalled spending about a month with the group, where he was introduced to communist ideology. However, he said his observations during that time eventually changed his perspective, particularly after witnessing poor farmers being required to contribute part of their harvest.

Padilla said he grew up in a socialist household because of his father, labor leader Roy Padilla Sr., making communist teachings easy to understand. Still, he concluded that while the idea of equality is appealing, he now believes achieving a society with no rich or poor people is unrealistic.
