Filmmaker Darryl Yap has once again stirred online discussions after posting a lengthy message on social media defending Senator Robin Padilla against critics following the senator's recent public statements.

In his post dated July 23, Yap claimed that Padilla represents the sentiments of ordinary Filipinos, arguing that the senator speaks from personal conviction even if his delivery is not always polished.

Opening his statement, Yap declared:

"Si Robin Padilla ang Sambayanan."

He then criticized supporters of the opposition whom he referred to as "kakampinks," accusing them of insulting Padilla while allegedly holding different standards for other political figures.

According to Yap, many people misunderstood Padilla's use of the phrase "one-sided," insisting that what the senator intended to describe was a "double standard."

He explained:

"nung sinabi nyang 'One-Sided' ang gusto niyang ipakahulugan ay 'Double-Standard' yun bang sala sa init, sala sa lamig."

Yap further argued that ordinary Filipinos understood the point Padilla was trying to raise regarding how certain actions are judged depending on who benefits from them.

He wrote:

"Gets ng mga Ordinaryong Pilipino ang tanong nya na: Bakit ang isang grupo gaya ng prosecution at ng mga kakampink—kapag pabor sa kanila, babansagan nilang 'tama', 'pwede' at 'katanggap-tanggap' pero kapag kapakipakinabang na ito sa katunggali—kahit obvious na obvious, garapalan nilang sasabihing 'mali', 'hindi pwede' at 'hindi katanggap-tanggap'."

The director also compared Padilla with Senator Risa Hontiveros, claiming that while Padilla may not be the most skilled communicator, he speaks without relying on prepared materials.

Yap stated:

"Hindi si Robin Padilla ang pinakabihasa sa komunikasyon, pero hindi siya nagpapanggap na ubod ng talino."

He followed this with several emphatic statements, writing:

Another part of his post read:

Toward the end of his message, Yap reiterated his belief that Padilla's authenticity resonates with many Filipinos despite criticism over his communication style.

He wrote:

"Hindi sakto ang salita pero dama ng tao ang ideya—hindi takot magtanong at makialam, suportahan man o pagtawanan—BASTA SARILI MONG BOSES, WALANG HALONG PAGPAPANGGAP, PAGYAYABANG AT PAGMAMALINIS."

Yap concluded his post by questioning the differing reactions of some critics toward Padilla and Hontiveros, ending with the statement:

"One Sided, Double Standard o nakaside sa walang Standards."

The post quickly generated reactions online, with supporters and critics alike expressing differing views on Yap's remarks and his defense of the senator.

The filmmaker shared a News5 report about the interview on Facebook and added a humorous caption referring to the actress as "Crazy Pinky." He later uploaded another post containing a political commentary directed at those who, according to him, avoid criticizing the President.

Meanwhile, Darryl Yap also questioned the Department of Trade and Industry's statement that a ₱500 budget is enough for a Noche Buena meal. To support his point, he shared an alleged 1993 SM Delgado grocery receipt showing that ₱500 was once enough to buy a complete set of holiday food items, including ham, queso de bola, pasta, hotdogs, and desserts. The filmmaker used the comparison to illustrate how much prices have changed over the years.
