Nadine Lustre opened up about the relationship dynamic she shares with boyfriend Christophe Bariou, revealing that one of the foundations of their romance is respecting each other's need for personal space.

During her guest appearance on the Almost Honest podcast hosted by Kylie Verzosa, the actress discussed why spending time apart has become an important part of their relationship instead of something they fear or avoid.
"I love space. He loves having space for himself and I love having space for myself because when we are not together, those are the times when we work on ourselves. We discover new things about ourselves," she relayed.
According to Nadine, having opportunities to grow individually ultimately strengthens their bond because each of them gains new experiences they can later share with one another.

"Para kang nag-solo adventure and then babalik ka, you will come home, babalitaan mo siya, 'I bring you here. I discovered this new spot,' ganyan. 'I learned something new,'" she pointed out.
She added that personal growth should not be viewed as a threat to a relationship.
"Which is nice because there are things that you discover about yourself, or that you discover that you won't probably discover if you're with your partner. And that is not a bad thing. People kasi think na parang kailangan together kayo all the time," she added.
Nadine also acknowledged that their lifestyle naturally supports this arrangement because they have always known that they are based in different places. Christophe primarily lives in Siargao, while she spends most of her time in Manila.
"From the very beginning pa lang we already know si Chris really, his life is really in Siargao, ako talaga Manila. But it works out eh. It really does," she highlighted.
Despite the distance between them, Nadine emphasized that being in a healthy relationship should not feel difficult.
"The thing is, if you are in the right relationship, it's going to be effortless," she pointed out.
The conversation also touched on the positive influence Christophe has had on her personal life. Nadine shared that he has encouraged her to practice self-love by reminding her to slow down and take care of herself, especially because of her tendency to focus heavily on work.
"Self-love because he knows that I work hard, like I really grind, that's how I am. That I forget to take care of myself, that I forget to have time for myself. He's the one who reminds me to slow down, stretch, ganun siya," she shared.
"Did you work out? Did you get to read a book? Ganun siya."
