Social media personality Yiv Cortez expressed her gratitude to actress Angel Locsin after the latter publicly criticized Sen. Robin Padilla over several political issues that recently sparked widespread discussion online.

Angel broke her social media hiatus in the early hours of July 16 to react to reports about Padilla's remarks during the impeachment trial proceedings, where he referred to her as a "communist" while questioning lawyer Jeremy Lotoc.

Her lengthy statement revisited conversations she claimed to have shared with Padilla years ago, recalling stories he allegedly told about joining the armed struggle in the mountains during his younger years.

"Nung mga panahong magkasama tayo, madalas mong ikwento yung panahon na namundok ka at nag-armas para ipaglaban ang bayan. Sabi mo pa nga, dinadalaw ka ng ex mo sa bundok."

"Sa statement mo na to, kahit papaano, natuwa akong makita ulit yung dating Robin Padilla na nakilala ko. At least, honest ka ngayon, Kuya."

Angel then raised questions about why Padilla allegedly remained silent when she faced red-tagging accusations despite, according to her, knowing that the allegations were false.

“Ang tanong ko lang, nasaan ka nung panahong nirered-tag ako kahit alam mong hindi totoo? Actually, kasama mo pa nga at kachikahan yung mga nangre-red-tag.”

The actress also expressed disappointment over what she described as Padilla's current priorities, saying many Filipinos had expected him to be a strong advocate for Muslim communities instead of appearing to defend Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy, who is facing multiple cases.

"Isa sa mga pinakamalaking dahilan kung bakit ka binoto ng maraming Pilipino ay dahil inasahan nilang magiging matapang kang boses para sa mga kapatid nating Muslim. Pero bakit parang mas ipinaglalaban mo pa si Quiboloy? Naniniwala ka ba talaga na siya ang 'appointed son of God'?"

Angel likewise criticized the senator's position on issues involving the West Philippine Sea and China's relations with the Philippines.

"Isa ka sa pinaka-makabayang taong nakilala. Ikaw si Andres Bonifacio. Kaya nakakalungkot pag nakakabasa ako ng stand mo pagdating sa China. Hindi ito ang Robin Padilla na nakilala at hinangaan ko."

"Kahit paano, alam kong halos pareho tayong landas na dinaanan. Galing sa hirap, nagtrababo ng maaga, tinangkilik at nakapagpasaya ng mga tao. Ang utang na loob natin ay sa ating diyos at sa lahat ng Pilipino —hindi lamang sa isang tao."

She concluded her message by urging Padilla to reconsider his current positions.

"Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat."

Following Angel's post, social media personality Viy Cortez's sister, Yiv Cortez, expressed his appreciation for the actress's statement.

"Salamat Ms Angel Locsin. Magising na sana ang lahat."

Yiv also pushed back against social media users who claimed Angel had remained silent on the alleged flood control controversy, arguing that the issue had already been addressed by lawmakers involved in the investigation.
