Gerald Anderson stood by Robin Padilla's participation in the ABS-CBN action-drama series Blood vs Duty, saying the senator's political controversies had nothing to do with his work as an actor during filming, Inquirer.net reported.

The actor addressed the issue during the show's finale media conference on July 13 after being asked if he still supported Padilla's inclusion in the series despite the senator's recent controversies in the Senate.

According to Anderson, politics is left behind once filming begins because everyone on the set shares the same goal of creating a quality project for viewers.

“Pag tapak mo sa set, wala na ’yon. Hindi kasama ’yon. At the end of the day, artista. Nandun siya, binabayaran din siya para magtrabaho. Kung baga, isa siyang aktor. Isa siyang idol,” Anderson said.

He also explained why Padilla was the ideal choice to portray Ahmad Mustapha, a fictional Muslim leader and presidential executive aide who secretly assists Anderson's character, Jalil.

“And for that kind of role na si Sir Mustafa, I don’t even think may ibang babagay dun, bilang isang Muslim leader. And sa totoong buhay siya ay Muslim leader. So pag tapakin mo sa set, labas na po yung mga politika. We’re just trying to make a good project para sa audience natin,” he added.

Padilla has remained one of the country's most talked-about political figures since entering public office. Most recently, he drew attention for his outspoken opposition to the impeachment case involving Vice President Sara Duterte. Despite these issues, Anderson maintained that such matters should not influence how audiences view Padilla's work in the series.

Richard Gutierrez shared the same sentiment, describing his experience working alongside Padilla as enjoyable and professional.

“With Senator Robin, ang gaan ng feeling makatrabaho siya. It’s the first time na naka-eksena ko siya sa buong buhay ko. So, I’m grateful for the experience. Ang gaan niya katrabaho,” Gutierrez said.

He admitted there was some initial nervousness among those on set because Padilla is now a senator and a veteran action star.

“Siyempre, pag pumasok siya sa room, isipin mo, Senator natin siya. He’s been in the action scenes so many times. So, mayroon konting nervousness from the people around him. Pero siya mismo nagpapagaan ng eksena,” he said.

Gutierrez also denied that Padilla’s casting was meant to convey any political message through the production.

“All the political things, kung ano man na nangyayari sa Senado, sa Congress, hindi ’yun ang gusto namin marating or may gusto kaming patunayan dun or anything, wala. We are artists, ’di ba?”

He further emphasized that Padilla first built his career as an actor before entering politics.

“Senator Robin started as an actor and he missed acting […] So, no hesitations. Kung ano man ‘yung reaction ng mga ibang tao, siyempre, hindi na namin control ‘yun sa political side of things. Pero kami, as artists, we’re trying to give the best show possible for all of you,” Gutierrez added.

Padilla's character, Ahmad Mustapha, eventually met a tragic fate in the series after being killed by retired General Manuel Carillo, portrayed by Bodjie Pascua. The action-drama revolved around the fight against gun smuggling while exploring the impact of organized crime on families and Muslim Filipino communities.

Gerald Anderson is a prominent Filipino-American actor, producer, and entrepreneur who first entered the public eye as a finalist on Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition in 2006. Over a celebrated two-decade career, he has evolved into one of the country's most reliable action stars, recently making his debut as a film producer with the movie Rekonek and starring in the hit primetime action-drama series Blood vs Duty.

In another report, Gerald Anderson shared that he is choosing to remain single for now so he can focus on becoming a better version of himself. The actor explained that he wants to improve as a future partner, son, brother, and provider before entering another relationship.

Meanwhile, Gerald Anderson recalled the most painful words he has ever heard from a former girlfriend during an interview with Baron Geisler, saying the remark, “You took me for granted,” has stayed with him. A clip of the conversation later circulated on Reddit, prompting speculation that he was referring to Julia Barretto.
