The issue began after Trillanes slammed Remulla over the handling of dela Rosa’s situation tied to the ICC investigation connected to former president Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war.
“You know, I’ve given up on Secretary Jonvic. If you think, at one point, he cannot top his incompetence, he really keeps on outdoing himself,” Trillanes said.
“He said yesterday he’s there to protect Bato. If you’re there to protect Bato, how did he elude you? How will you protect him now? So, I give up on him,” he added.

Remulla later responded by bringing up Trillanes’ political defeats.
“There’s a reason why Trillanes lost three elections in a row,” Remulla said.
“He’s arrogant first. He thinks later,” he added.
Ogie later took to Facebook to defend Trillanes and argued that the former senator remains influential despite losing elections.
Pero nakakapagpakulong,” he added.
The controversy further intensified after dela Rosa reportedly left the Senate premises with Senator Robin Padilla amid speculation surrounding possible arrest attempts.
