The distribution of the gifts was done in collaboration with Reese Fernandez-Ruiz, co-founder and president of Rags2Riches, a social enterprise known for transforming upcycled materials into handcrafted fashion items while providing livelihood opportunities for Filipino artisans and underserved communities.
Sen. Bam Aquino, who co-founded Rags2Riches in its early years as a social entrepreneur, has long been an advocate of empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises. His involvement in initiatives like Hapinoy further reflects his work in supporting micro-entrepreneurs, particularly women managing small businesses across the country.
BINI is an eight-member Filipino girl group formed through ABS-CBN's Star Hunt Academy, consisting of Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, and Sheena. Dubbed the "Nation's Girl Group," they have spearheaded the modern P-pop wave with massive viral hits like "Pantropiko" and "Salamin, Salamin," while breaking international barriers with milestone appearances at Coachella and the Billboard Women in Music Awards.
In another report, Senator Bam Aquino expressed support for the idea of making BINI official tourism ambassadors of the Philippines. The proposal gained traction following the group’s historic performance at Coachella, which brought international attention to Filipino talent. Lawmakers also emphasized the importance of strengthening the country’s creative industry as a form of “soft power.”
Meanwhile, the Filipino girl group BINI was formally honored at the Philippine Senate after making history as the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella. The recognition was made through Senate Resolution No. 46 led by Senate President Vicente Sotto III. Senators praised the group’s achievement as a source of pride and inspiration for Filipinos worldwide.
