Senator Bato dela Rosa found himself at the center of renewed public controversy following his return to the Senate on May 11, after more than half a year of absence from sessions. His comeback coincided with significant developments inside the chamber, including leadership changes that saw Sen. Tito Sotto replaced by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate President.

Tensions escalated after reports of an NBI attempt to serve a warrant of arrest at the Senate compound, reportedly issued by the ICC in The Hague over allegations tied to the drug war under former President Rodrigo Duterte.
However, the operation failed as Bato dela Rosa reportedly evaded the operatives, later returning to the Senate where he attended the session and joined the vote that removed Sotto from his position.
Amid these events, a separate controversy emerged online after a video circulated showing the senator allegedly raising his voice at a female reporter who was asking questions about his return to work.

Kapamilya actress and director Bela Padilla reacted strongly to the viral clip through her Instagram story, directly criticizing the senator’s behavior.
“So many questions. (First), who gave that man the right to shout at a woman calmly asking him questions that are valid,” Bela Padilla said.
She continued, “Yes, we’d like to know. lkaw na nga nagsabi na sumusweldo ka. So nasaan ka recently? Sumusuweldo ka ng hindi ka pumapasok, okay ba yun?”
Bela also added, “(Second), why so hysterical? Calm down. Did you come to work today to finally do some good work today, sir?”
The actress further questioned the senator’s long absence from duty, drawing comparisons to ordinary workers.
“I was in the (emergency room) the other day but I still rushed to work immediately after. And I’m not even important."
“Aren’t senators important? Don’t their decisions affect millions of lives? So their wages being high is justified."
“But if they don’t come to work, what happens?” she added.
The issue continues to circulate online as Filipinos weigh in on the senator’s return, the alleged ICC-linked warrant incident, and the broader question of public accountability in government service.
