In an interview aired through “Showbiz Updates,” Vic expressed pride in his son but clarified that Vico is still not eligible to run for president based on constitutional requirements.
“The age is not right yet. Kadalasan kapag nababanggit si Vico, it’s always praises for him. Siyempre proud tatay naman ako,” said Vic Sotto.
Under the 1987 Philippine Constitution, a presidential candidate must be at least 40 years old on election day. Vico Sotto is currently 36, making him ineligible for the highest government post at this time.

Vic also emphasized that while public interest in his son’s future is understandable, the decision to pursue higher political office remains personal.
“As far as I’m concerned, ‘yung desisyon nasa kanya ‘yon, e. Siguro baka magpahinga lang sandali.”
“And I’m sure he’s back. ‘’Yung serbisyo publiko nasa dugo na niya ‘yun, e,” he added.
The seasoned host also reiterated that public service appears to run in Vico’s blood, noting his consistent dedication to governance since becoming mayor of Pasig City.
Meanwhile, Vico Sotto has previously shared his intention to step back from politics after his term to focus on personal growth and teaching. In a separate interview, he revealed plans that reflect his interest in education and reflection.
“Ang plano ko, balikan ‘yung mga hindi ko nagawa dahil tumakbo akong mayor. I’d like to teach if I have an opportunity. That’s one thing,” Vico said.
Before entering politics, Vico briefly worked as a Social Science instructor at Arellano University, a role he held for a semester before fully committing to public service.
As discussions about his possible national political future continue, both father and son appear aligned on one point—timing remains a crucial factor, and Vico’s next steps will depend on readiness rather than public pressure.
