Speaking candidly in an interview, the young star confirmed that his father had to undergo emergency surgery following an accident at home, an event that struck while Miguel was on the grueling 32-hour journey back to the Philippines.
Miguel had spent weeks celebrating his 27th birthday by backpacking across South America, visiting major cities in Brazil, Peru, and Argentina.
However, the spiritual and adventurous journey was overshadowed by unexpected anxiety on his return flight.
"Pauwi ako Tito Boy, imagine 32 hours ang biyahe pabalik tapos inooperahan siya nun," Miguel shared. " Hindi ko alam kung anong nangyayari, s'yempre nakakakaba."
The actor’s mother, Mommy Grace, had previously posted updates on social media hinting at the hospitalization, but the details of the domestic accident and subsequent surgery were only recently confirmed by Miguel.
The actor’s distress highlights the painful isolation and helplessness that comes with being far away from family during a medical crisis.
The long, solitary journey home was fraught with worry, knowing his father was undergoing a major procedure without him present.
Fortunately, the surgery was successful. Miguel confirmed the positive update, telling the public: " Ok na po si Daddy ngayon thankfully."
He praised his father’s resilience and willpower, noting that his dad's inherent strength helped him through the recovery process.
The elder Tanfelix has since been discharged from the hospital and is currently recuperating at home under the care of his family.
The gravity of the incident served as a powerful turning point for the actor. He admitted that the close call forced him to re-evaluate his priorities and his decision to travel alone for his birthday.
While he is known for his adventurous spirit, the health scare provided a humbling lesson on the true value of family presence.
Miguel’s realization is a poignant reminder for many successful, busy individuals who pursue personal ambitions far from home: the most important celebrations are often those shared with loved ones.
Moving forward, the actor suggested he would prioritize family gatherings for future milestones.
Currently, Miguel is busy promoting his latest cinematic project, the KMJS' "Gabi ng Lagim: The Movie," but his recent family ordeal ensures that even amidst professional obligations, his focus remains firmly on his father’s full recovery and the importance of cherished family time.
Miguel is part of the cast of “KMJS’ Gabi ng Lagim The Movie,” which features three horror stories brought to life by a star-studded ensemble that includes Jillian Ward, Sanya Lopez, Elijah Canlas, and several others. The film is scheduled to hit theaters beginning November 26.
During the same interview, Miguel also revealed he lost P20,000 after accidentally overpaying a restaurant bill while backpacking in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The actor admitted he was sentimental and distracted on his first night, leading him to mistake P2,000 for P20,000. Despite attempting to get a refund and reviewing CCTV footage, the restaurant refused to reimburse him due to insufficient proof. Miguel accepted the loss, joking that the P20,000 was his "birthday gift" to the person who took the money.
A couple of days ago, the actor reportedly collapsed while shooting a horror scene in a smoke-filled basement of a ship in Manila Bay. The actor recalled warning the director moments before losing consciousness. Medics rushed to check his condition; his blood pressure later stabilized. Miguel stars in the anthology film alongside Jillian Ward, Sanya Lopez, Elijah Canlas, and more, showing in cinemas starting November 26.
