Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the lead counsel of Deniece Cornejo effectively quit and no longer wishes to be part of the proceedings.
In a statement coursed through ABS-CBN reporter Niko Baua, the lawyer stated that there has been a difference in the management of the case, which was brought about by certain people.
He said that given such, he cannot, "in good conscience and ethics" cannot continue his services.

In a statement, he said that he is disassociating and distancing himself from the prosecution of the rape case filed by Deniece against Vhong Navarro.
He also clarified that he has previously represented Deniece upon the request of the family, especially that of Rod Cornejo, who happens to be his close friend.
Now, there are certain people, whom he said are trying to take the case in a direction that he does not wish to pursue.
Vhong is a Filipino comedian, actor, dancer, singer, judge, and TV host of ABS-CBN Entertainment Groups. He was part of the dance group Streetboys in the Philippines. He is currently hosting the noontime variety show, "It's Showtime."
Cristy Fermin had a commentary again on the news that the court junked Vhong Navarro’s petition to remain under NBI detention. Due to the said decision, Vhong is expected to be transferred to Taguig City jail. In the latest “Showbiz Now Na!” episode, Cristy supposed that among the fears of the actor and his camp are the purported occurrences inside city jails that Vhong might experience.
Ogie Diaz recently reacted to the news that Vhong Navarro will be transferred to the Taguig City Jail. It is worth recalling that the Taguig Regional Trial Court did not grant Vhong's petition to remain under NBI detention. Following this news, Ogie discussed the issue with Mama Loi in their latest 'Showbiz Update' vlog. According to Ogie, "Alam mo, feeling ko 'no, yun ang takot ni Vhong na yun dun siya ihatid sa City Jail."
