The couple shared the news in a matching post on their respective Instagram accounts.
The two met in Bacolod City, Vickie’s hometown, almost twelve years ago when Jason appeared there as guest during the Kapamilya Karavan as part of the celebration of the iconic MassKara Festival.

In an old news report by the Inquirer, it was revealed that Vickie, wearing her University of St. La Salle uniform, climbed up the stage to meet Jason who was singing at the time.
“8 years ago fan na fan lang kita tapos umakyat ka pa sa stage para ikaw kantahan ko,” the old Inquirer report dated October 2018 quoted Jason as saying.
In their recent matching posts where they announced their engagement, one can see Jason hugging Vickie, with the beauty queen showing what appeared to be an engagement ring on her finger.
“So, Baba and I have been keeping a little secret… When the time is right I, the Lord, will make it happen,” Vickie wrote in her post.
For his part, Jason wrote his expression of gratitude for having met Vickie and then indicated that they would tie the knot soon.
“Habambuhay ko pasasalamat ang Panginoon sa buhay mo Baba. Patugtugin na ang kampana!" Jason said.
Jason also wrote, what appeared to be a date, “9/1/21,” which might indicate they have been engaged since that time, and also explains the caption of Vickie about keeping something a secret for a time.
Vickie Rushton is a former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate. She was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas 2011 and Binibining Pilipinas 2018 1st Runner Up. Her fiancé is actor Jason Abalos.
Last year, during a digital media conference to promote his new film, 'Silab', Jason was asked to share his thoughts regarding the retirement of his girlfriend, Vickie Rushton, from competing in beauty pageants. The actor revealed that he had let Vicki participate in the pageant world previously but had to tell her to stop since he believes it's time for them to start a family. It can be recalled that Vickie had shared that she cried after deciding to quit competing in pageants.
The year before that, Vickie’s performance at the 2019 Binibining Pilipinas contest became a hot topic on social media. She did not win Miss Universe Philippines due to her performance at the Q&A portion. However, she is still the Miss Universe for her brother Kian, who has Down Syndrome.
