The Manila local chief executive and presidential candidate cracked the joke in the middle of his speech at a rally in Butuan City last April 19.

During the said rally, Mayor Isko, in a jest, said he is offering his son to the LGBT community, jokingly adding that the booking is free.

He also made some remarks that made the crowd present laugh, though it didn’t have the same effect on some netizens.

“Sa ating mga LGBT, mamaya iregalo ko sa inyo si Joaquin, libre ang bookin pero tikim lang, ‘wag kakainin,” Mayor Isko joked during the rally.

His joke might have caused the eyebrows of some netizens to raise, with some of them reacting to the mayor’s jest.

UP Lipad, an organization that advocates equal treatment regardless of orientation, also issued a statement on the mayor’s joke.

“UP Lipad expresses deep concern regarding presidential aspirant Isko Moreno’s statement during his campaign speech in Butuan where he purportedly offered his son to the LGBTQIA+ community in the crowd,” the statement read.

Mayor Isko has yet to comment on the issue.

Several days ago, Mayor Isko boldly asked VP Leni Robredo to withdraw her candidacy as president in this year’s elections. He also asked VP Leni to make the supreme sacrifice if she really loves the country, adding that VP Leni’s only motive in running was to fight the Marcoses. Mayor Isko said that in his case and other presidential candidates present during a press conference, they are offering their service for the betterment of the Filipinos.

After the press conference where Mayor Isko called on VP Leni to withdraw her candidacy for president in the 2022 elections, his son Joaquin also followed suit. Joaquin took to Instagram and used the hashtag #WithdrawLeni. The photo that the young actor posted was of himself, taken during one of the campaign rallies of his father. Aside from the #WithdrawLeni hashtag, he also used #UniteForIsko and #SwitchToIsko.
