UP Lipad, an organization that advocates equal treatment regardless of orientation, also issued a statement on the mayor’s joke.

Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso is a famous celebrity politician in the Philippines. He used to be very active in the entertainment industry as an actor. Today, he is the 27th mayor of the City of Manila. He is now often referred to by his supporters and in the media as “Yorme.”
Several days ago, Mayor Isko boldly asked VP Leni Robredo to withdraw her candidacy as president in this year’s elections. He also asked VP Leni to make the supreme sacrifice if she really loves the country, adding that VP Leni’s only motive in running was to fight the Marcoses. Mayor Isko said that in his case and other presidential candidates present during a press conference, they are offering their service for the betterment of the Filipinos.
After the press conference where Mayor Isko called on VP Leni to withdraw her candidacy for president in the 2022 elections, his son Joaquin also followed suit. Joaquin took to Instagram and used the hashtag #WithdrawLeni. The photo that the young actor posted was of himself, taken during one of the campaign rallies of his father. Aside from the #WithdrawLeni hashtag, he also used #UniteForIsko and #SwitchToIsko.
