Veteran columnist Cristy Fermin played a big role in opening doors for Ogie Diaz in the Pinoy showbiz industry.

She narrated the events that happened to Mama Loi, the co-host of Ogie in the online program Showbiz Updates, beginning with how she met the future showbiz reporter-writer and talent manager.

“Sa gilid ng GMA7, sa isang tindahang maliit, nako-koryap koryap ang laman. Pinuntahan niya ako. Naka-blue siyang polo at maong na kupas na kupas,” Manay Cristy recalled.

“Tapos sabi niya, ‘gusto ko po sana ng trabaho,’” she said, before being corrected by Ogie who said: “Hindi, nagpa-picture muna,” to which Cristy agreed.

Ogie said that after a week, he returned and asked Manay Cristy if he could go with her.

He said Cristy consented and told him: “Tara. Kunwari kasama kita. Dadalhin mo yung jacket ko.”

It was during this time that Ogie opened up to the columnist about his status in life and asked if she could give him work.

“Akala ko kasi, trabaho lang yung hinihingi niya, not necessarily maging manunulat. Sabi niya ‘ay di po yun ang gusto ko.’ Sinabi na niya. Sabi niya gusto niyang maging manunulat at sinusubaybayan niya mga columns ko sa Mariposa,” Manay Cristy revealed.

“Kapag sumasama siya sa akin, tuwing Sabado yun, naka-abang na siya sa gate, bente pesos ang ibinibigay ko sa kanya. Pag may okasyon tulad ng pasko, fifty pesos,” she added.

Ogie said that the money he receives from Manay Cristy is spent only on his fare but he endured because he really wanted to become a writer.

The showbiz reporter and talent manager also revealed that Cristy became his “bridge” and stepping stone towards the fulfillment of his dreams.

Cristinelli Fermin, more popularly known as Cristy Fermin, is a Pinay talk show host and showbiz columnist. She attended and finished her Journalism degree at the Lyceum of the Philippines University. Her first journalistic foray was into the political scene, but soon after, she started writing about celebrities and movie stars. Her TV debut was with GMA’s Movie Magazine where she was the main host. She also hosted with Butch Francisco a Sunday talk show titled “Showbiz Lingo.” She later hosted the daily talk program Cristy Per Minute and was regarded then as the “Queen of Intrigues.”

In the latest episode of her Showbiz Now Na, Manay Cristy revealed that Toni Gonzaga and her husband, Paul Soriano, sat down in a meeting with Willie Revillame. The veteran columnist expressed her opinion that the subject of the meeting may have something to do with Toni’s exit from Pinoy Big Brother. She also speculated about the possibility of the TV host and actress transferring to AMBS, the network owned by the Villars that is rumored to be headed by Willie.

In the same online show, Manay Cristy also discussed the apology that Megastar Sharon Cuneta posted about a week after her rant against senatorial candidate Atty. Salvador Panelo. The Megastar published the apology in an online post where she wrote “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” on top of her lengthy message. Cristy Fermin, during her radio program, then aired her honest thoughts on Sharon’s apology. The veteran showbiz reporter lauded the Megastar for owning up to her mistake.
