In an interview over the vlog of showbiz reporter and talent manager Ogie Diaz, the singer said her daughter supported her coming out into the open.
She also said that her daughter was only 11 when she told her that she’s not straight.
“She was 11 that time when I told her 'I’m not straight, Sweety’,” Sheryn narrated in an interview with Ogie.

The singer said that owing perhaps to the fact that she grew up in the US, it wasn’t hard for her daughter to accept her identity.
“She grew up sa America and sabi niya, ‘Oh well, I knew it, mommy! But it doesn’t make you less of a person, it doesn’t make you less of a mom’,” Sheryn recalled her daughter as saying at the time.
The singer came out to the public in December of last year.
She also posted sweet photos of her and vlogger Mel De Guia.
In her daughter’s message for Sheryn in her coming out video, Sweety said that her mom served as an inspiration in her own quest to become a better person.
“Over the past 18 years of being your daughter, you have taught me one thing and it’s that I need to strive to be the best person that I can ever be, and you are my number one inspiration for that,” Sheryn’s daughter said in her message for her mom.
She also said that love is free and her mom is also free, adding that she’s proud of her mom.
“You are literally breaking out of your shell and coming out of your comfort zone just to be the person that you’ve always wanted to be. In love, there are no boundaries. Love is love, no matter what anybody says, and there are no labels, nothing, no stereotypes to live. Love is free, and you are free, mom. I love you and I’m proud of you,” Sweety added.

Sheryn Mae Poncardas Regis, more popularly known as Sheryn Regis, is a Pinay pop singer and songwriter, TV host, occasional actress, and entrepreneur. She rose to stardom during the first season of Star in a Million singing competition, where she placed runner-up to the competition’s champion, Erik Santos, way back in 2003.
Last year, Sheryn and vlogger Mel De Guia have a Dubsmash Tiktok video that went viral. In the video, Sheryn could be seen initially as the only one facing the camera and a few seconds after, Mel, got into the frame. They initially hugged with a huge smile on their faces, showing pure happiness. Thereafter, Mel, planted a cute kiss on her cheek and both influencers continued laughing and hugging each other.
Sheryn said that she first revealed to her former husband that she's a lesbian. She said she was shivering as she told him the truth. Sheryn also told her husband that not only did she lie to him and her family, but also her own self. She said it was the reason why she went through a severe depression.
