In a social media post, the veteran actor described his approach as “method acting” as he explained how he prepared to portray Pedro, a fisherman whose life and circumstances required him to understand a world very different from his own.
According to Confiado, he deliberately stepped away from his usual environment a month before production started. Instead, he lived alongside fishermen in Northern Philippines and tried to adapt to their everyday experiences.
“Isang buwan bago ang shooting, iniwan ko muna ang mundong nakasanayan ko upang makibahagi sa mundo ng mga mangingisda sa Norte,” he wrote.

Confiado said he did more than simply observe the fishermen. He lived with them, adjusted to their way of life and attempted to understand the realities they face every day.
He also underwent physical changes for the role, including tanning and losing weight.
Namuhay akong kasama nila. Nakibagay sa kanilang pamumuhay. Nagpaitim. Nagpapayat. At higit sa lahat, sinikap kong unawain ang buhay na araw-araw nilang hinaharap - ang dagat, ang hanapbuhay, ang pagod, at ang pakikipagbuno sa buhay.
The actor explained that portraying Pedro required more than wearing the character’s clothes or delivering scripted dialogue. For him, authenticity meant developing an understanding of the environment and circumstances that shaped Pedro as a person.
“Hindi sapat na isuot ko lamang ang damit ni Pedro,” Confiado said, explaining that he wanted to experience, as much as possible, the world that formed his character.
He identified the sea, livelihood, physical exhaustion and daily struggle as some of the realities he sought to understand during his preparation.
Confiado also reflected on his philosophy regarding acting. He said performing is not limited to memorizing lines or appearing in front of a camera, but involves a process of understanding, listening and gradually entering the consciousness of someone whose life may be vastly different from one’s own.
For the actor, getting to know Pedro’s world had to come before portraying him.
“Bago ko siya ganapan, kailangan ko munang kilalanin ang mundo niya,” he wrote.
His preparation lasted one month, which Confiado described as a period during which he wholeheartedly embraced the character.
He introduced the journey by identifying himself as Mon Confiado and describing the experience as his path toward becoming Pedro in The Fisher.
The film is directed by Soriano and comes from TEN17P Black Cap Pictures. According to Confiado’s announcement, The Fisher is set for an exclusive theatrical release on October 21, 2026.
The actor’s post offered audiences an early look at the commitment behind his performance and the lengths he took to make Pedro feel authentic. Confiado emphasized the importance of experiencing the environment and understanding the people whose lives inspired the character.
His preparation also reflects a career-long reputation for taking his performances seriously. Confiado has frequently taken on demanding dramatic roles, and his work has established him as one of the Philippines’ respected character actors.
With The Fisher, audiences will get to see another physical and emotional transformation from the veteran performer, this time as Pedro, a fisherman whose world became the focus of Confiado’s month-long preparation.
