Maiqui Pineda Domingo offered a candid look at how she continued pumping breastmilk during a five-day trip without her baby.

In an Instagram carousel shared for Breastfeeding Month, the content creator detailed the planning, supplies, and discipline needed to keep going while traveling.
“Pumping while traveling without my baby was definitely an adventure,” she wrote.
Maiqui said her first pumping session happened before she had even left the country. She did not realize that she was already leaking, which led to her first lesson: “ALWAYS pack an extra set of clothes.”

Her suggested travel items included spare clothing, a nursing cover, and a resealable bag for wet clothes. An extra top, she said, saved the day.
The mother also followed a pumping schedule prepared by her lactation consultant. She pumped every three hours to maintain her supply and reminded travelers to adjust their schedule to the local time zone when needed.
Another lesson was to “Be ready to pump ANYWHERE.” Maiqui recalled pumping at an airport food court during a layover. She also used wearable pumps while attending an event and later transferred the milk into a storage bag while still at the venue.
Cleaning the equipment presented another challenge. For times when she was on the go, she packed dry and wet wipes, disinfectant spray, and resealable bags. Once back at her hotel or the house where she was staying, she washed the pump parts using baby bottle soap and water. She then placed them on a compact drying rack.
Maiqui also tried keeping her used pumps inside an insulated bag with ice between sessions. She noted that she still wiped and disinfected the equipment after each session whenever she could.
The hardest part came when she realized that she would not be able to bring some of the milk home. She had to pump and discard it. According to her, she would have considered donating the milk, but there were strict protocols in the United States.
Things were different on her return flight. This time, she safely stored the milk so she could bring it home to her baby. She said a breastmilk chiller made traveling for long hours easier.
Because the flight lasted 16 hours, one chiller was not enough. Maiqui carried several containers and regularly asked flight attendants and airport cafe staff for ice. The refills helped her keep the milk cold throughout the long journey.
After arriving home, she transferred the milk into storage bags and added it to her supply. She explained that being away for five days required months of preparation, but she was thankful that she managed it.
