The actress explained that she originally chose a very different academic path by enrolling in Nursing at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), noting that she took up the course first and managed to complete two years of the program.

At that point in her life, Charlie noted that she was seriously aiming for a career in medicine because entering show business felt unrealistic for someone without industry connections.

"Gusto kong mag-Med talaga. Kasi hindi ko naman talaga ine-expect na makakapasok ako sa showbiz."

Her life took a turn when a classmate introduced her to Korean dramas and K-pop music, which led Charlie to attend local K-pop events until a Korean agency held an audition that she decided to take.

The successful audition convinced her to pivot away from her medical studies and officially inform her department at UST that she was leaving to become an artist.

Charlie began her training routine in Korea, but the entire arrangement eventually collapsed due to legal issues surrounding her contract and paperwork.

She noted that the agency initially tested her to see if she could actually handle living there, as others before her had given up after struggling with the food and the culture.

When the company attempted to secure her official paperwork, complications arose because the contract blended elements of student training and future employment. Charlie explained that authorities wanted the terms to be distinct, requiring it to be strictly for either working or training.

The administrative standoff eventually resulted in a proposal to alter the documentation, a move that her mother firmly rejected.

"So parang umabot sa gusto nila i-fake na 'yung contract. Siyempre ayaw ng mommy ko. So hindi na ako tumuloy."

Charlie confessed that losing the international opportunity left her feeling incredibly embarrassed at the time, wondering what she would tell people after she had already announced she was moving to Korea to become an artist.

Her personal faith also made it difficult for her to comprehend why the door had closed so suddenly.

"Yung parang, ‘Bakit? Eh pinag-pray ko ’to.’"

Looking back at the situation now, Charlie views the heartbreak as a necessary redirection that put her on the right path.

"So dito pala ako," Charlie said.

She observed that a comforting pattern has since defined her acting career, where major breakthroughs happen precisely when she feels completely exhausted.

"Every time din na parang pasuko ako, lalong may nag-o-open na door."
