Filipino-American singer Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, professionally known as H.E.R., recently gave diners in New York City a surprise treat when she took on a well-loved Filipino song during a karaoke session.

The New York-based restaurant Kalye posted a video of the award-winning artist singing “Maging Sino Ka Man,” a Rey Valera classic. H.E.R. performed the version associated with Sharon Cuneta, who recorded the song for the 1991 film of the same title, where she starred with Robin Padilla.

The unexpected performance showcased H.E.R.’s familiarity with Filipino music as she sang the OPM favorite while at the restaurant.

The singer is currently promoting “Forgotten Island,” DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film based on elements of Filipino folklore and mythology.

H.E.R. leads the voice cast of the animated project alongside Liza Soberano and Lea Salonga.

In 2021, H.E.R. won Song of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards for her song “I Can’t Breathe.” Following her Grammy win, the half-Filipina singer shared a TikTok video in which she humorously imitated her Filipina aunt using a Filipino accent, giving her Filipino fans a glimpse of her playful side. H.E.R. shared the video as a special shoutout to her Filipino supporters who had congratulated her on her recent achievements.
