Referring to Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, she joked that she would like to ask him whether he is related to actress Diana Zubiri.
“Wala namang ibang Bisaya du’n kundi si Senator Migz Zubiri. Itatanong ko sa kanya kung kaano-ano niya si Diana Zubiri,” she said, drawing laughter from those present.
However, Melai quickly shifted to a more serious tone, saying that what she truly wanted to ask the senator was how the country could move toward unity.
The actress expressed concern over the growing divisions among Filipinos, noting that while many countries are dealing with wars and external conflicts, citizens often stand together in support of their nation.
“Kasi sobra talaga tayong nakakahiya.
Melai went on to encourage Filipinos to be wise and responsible voters, emphasizing that citizens play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future through elections.
“So tayong mga Pinoy dapat maging wais talaga tayo. Tayo na bumoboto.”
She also expressed frustration over the behavior of some public officials and appealed for a sense of accountability and dignity in government.
“Sana naman bigyan tayo ng hiya. Tayo! Tayo ang bigyan ng hiya! Sila hindi ko alam kung may mga hiya pa ba sila,” she said.
The television personality highlighted the contrast between the struggles of ordinary Filipinos and the political conflicts dominating headlines.
According to Melai, many citizens work hard and try to enjoy the fruits of their labor, only to be reminded of the hardships faced by countless others.
Wala kang peace ba.”
Toward the end of her remarks, Melai made a direct appeal to lawmakers.
Ibalik niyo. Maawa kayo sa amin,” she said.
Her comments quickly gained attention online, with many netizens praising her for speaking openly about issues affecting ordinary Filipinos while encouraging greater unity and accountability among public officials.
