Alfred Vargas breaks his silence on court dismissal of his complaint vs Rob Sy

Alfred Vargas has finally broken his silence after the Manila Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the criminal complaint filed against fellow actor Rob Sy and his wife in connection with an alleged bullying incident involving their children during a swimming training session.

The complaint, filed on April 13 by Alfred Vargas and his wife Yasmine Espiritu, alleged a violation of Section 10(a) of Republic Act No. 7610, also known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

However, based on the resolution issued by prosecutors, authorities found insufficient evidence to establish criminal liability against Rob Sy and his wife over the alleged incident.

The resolution stated that there was not enough evidence to justify pursuing criminal charges in court.

Following reports regarding the dismissal of the complaint, Vargas released an official statement addressing the development and emphasizing that their family still intends to pursue legal remedies available to them under the law.

“STATEMENT OF ALFRED VARGAS

We have been informed about the decision of the prosecutor. While we have yet to receive the official decision, we say with certainty that we respect the law and due process and we will continue to do so regardless of the outcome,” Vargas said.

The actor-politician added that while they respect the legal process, they likewise intend to continue fighting for what they believe is justice for their child.

“In the same light, due process allows us to seek legal remedies. We will exert all available legal avenues to pursue justice for our child,” he stated.

“Hindi pa po dito nagtatapos ang laban,” Vargas added.

He concluded his statement by thanking supporters and those who offered prayers to their family amid the controversy.

“Thank you for all your prayers,” he said.

The issue previously generated significant public attention online after allegations concerning the children involved became widely discussed on social media. Both camps eventually released statements defending their respective sides while netizens debated the sensitive situation involving minors.

Prior to Vargas’ statement, Rob Sy also released a lengthy public statement following the dismissal of the complaint. In his remarks, Sy welcomed the prosecutor’s resolution and maintained that their family had consistently relied on what he described as objective truth and verified evidence.

Sy also strongly denied allegations that their child was a bully and thanked supporters, witnesses, legal counsel, and friends who stood by their family throughout the ordeal.

The actor further described the complaint as a “narrative reversal” and appealed to the public not to prematurely judge families involved in sensitive situations concerning children.

Alfred Vargas is a respected Filipino actor and public servant currently serving as councilor of the 5th district of Quezon City. Aside from his work in government, Vargas is also known for his acting career, particularly for his participation in the popular fantasy franchise Encantadia. Over the years, he has also become recognized for advocating for cancer patients and persons with disabilities through various public initiatives and programs.

Earlier, Rob Sy released a Facebook statement regarding the bullying complaint filed against his family before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office. According to Sy, he is naturally a quiet person who avoids conflict and public controversy, but he felt compelled to speak because of what he described as continuing attacks against his family and child. He firmly denied the accusations and insisted that the narrative surrounding the controversy had been unfairly reversed. Sy also stated that he and his wife, Jovelle Sy, were prepared to face the case while asking the public for fairness, understanding, and prayers.

Previously, Rob Sy also issued another official statement regarding the controversial bullying allegations involving their family. In his earlier remarks, Sy stressed that he was not the “villain” being portrayed in viral social media posts and online discussions. He likewise maintained that there were important details and circumstances connected to the controversy that the public had not fully seen or understood.
