Lara revealed that she was rushed to the hospital in November last year after waking up in the middle of the night with severe chest pain—an experience she described as unlike anything she had ever felt before.
“I woke up at 2 a.m., sobrang sakit talaga ng dibdib ko. As in it was the worst pain na naramdaman ko ever,” she shared.
She admitted that she usually tries to endure discomfort on her own and hesitates to ask for help, even from her loved ones. However, the intensity of the pain made her realize that the situation was serious.

“Usually nahihiya ako eh… kahit gisingin si Marco pag feeling ko kakayanin ko ‘to. Pero that time parang hindi,” she explained.
As her symptoms worsened, Lara began to fear the worst, especially when she started experiencing numbness.
“Naiisip ko, I think this is a heart attack kasi parang namamanhid na rin ‘yung head ko,” she added.
Her husband, actor Marco Alcaraz, immediately responded by calling Lara’s mother, who advised them to contact emergency services right away. Paramedics arrived shortly after and performed initial procedures, including an ECG and administering aspirin.
Although Lara began to feel slightly calmer, the pain persisted, prompting the medical team to bring her to the hospital. It was during this moment that a traumatic memory resurfaced.
“Sabi nung isang paramedic, ‘Can you walk to the ambulance?’ Sabi ko, ‘My papa walked to the ambulance and then he died,’” she recounted.
Lara recalled how her father passed away in the United Kingdom after suffering an asthma attack. Despite being able to walk to the ambulance, he later went into cardiac arrest and died.
Despite her fear, Lara complied and walked toward the ambulance. As she passed by her children’s room, she was overwhelmed with emotion.
“Pagdaan ko sa kwarto ng mga anak ko sabi ko, ‘I love you guys.’ Parang feeling ko mamamatay na ako,” she revealed.
The moment underscored the fear she was experiencing, as she thought she might not survive the ordeal.
After being admitted to the hospital, Lara underwent a series of medical examinations to determine the cause of her chest pain. Days later, she received reassuring news from her cardiologist.
“I got a call from my cardiologist… ‘It’s not a heart condition kasi your heart is working properly, there doesn’t seem to be any blockages,’” she said.
While relieved by the findings, Lara shared that doctors are still investigating the source of the pain, which she occasionally still feels, though now in a milder form.
Precious Lara Quigaman rose to prominence as a beauty queen and actress after clinching the Binibining Pilipinas International title and eventually winning Miss International in 2005. Years later, she tied the knot with actor Marco Alcaraz in 2012, and together they have built a family and are raising their children.
During the same interview, Lara also opened up about a difficult chapter in her past, revealing that she had been in an abusive relationship that caused her to drift away from her faith. She described feeling trapped, lost, and without hope during that time, until her mother stepped in and helped her break free from the situation.
Also in the same video, Lara opened up on embracing a new path as a preschool teacher in Canada, where she discovered joy in educating young children through play-based learning. She shared that this teaching style makes her work feel fulfilling rather than burdensome. Despite balancing her responsibilities as a mother and a student, Lara successfully graduated with distinction, marking another milestone in her journey..
