In the interview, Yap addressed the widespread belief that entertainers lack the qualifications to serve in government.

Abunda asked Yap: “What’s causing political bankruptcy ay ang pagpasok ng mga artista sa pulitika, your comment?”

For Yap, this judgment is both unfair and uninformed.

“I think that’s unfair because there are a lot of artists who have the brains to be able to be in politics, to be in public service,” he said.

Yap emphasized that the criticism often stems from the actions of a few, but ends up affecting the entire group of artist-politicians.

“That statement is based on a certain percentage of people who are there in power and sinasabi nila ganon na lahat. So it’s a generalization. It’s unfair for a lot of us,” he added.

The Be Careful With My Heart star ran for congress in Cebu City in 2019 and 2022, showing his own commitment to public service despite the challenges and skepticism faced by celebrity candidates.

Yap’s statement struck a chord with viewers, especially those who believe that passion and intelligence—not one’s profession—should determine a person’s ability to serve the public.
