The son of former boxing champion Rolando Navarette was shot dead on Monday night in Barangay Lagao, General Santos City.

KAMI learned that Rolando Navarette II was with his live-in partner when the incident happened.

According to the report of ABS-CBN News, Navarette II was just buying food with his partner at the corner of Aradaza Street, Carcon Village when a riding-in-tandem shot him.

Navarette II was brought to the hospital. However, he was pronounced dead.

As reported by GMA News Online, the incident was caught on CCTV footage. However, the police have yet to release a copy of it to the public.

According to the police, Navarette II was already in the drug watchlist of General Santos City Police Office. Three years ago, he already surrendered to the police.

“We have monitored na he is still involved in the drug. He is also a target din pero unfortunately talagang hindi siya mahuli-huli. So hindi natin sinasantabi ‘yan and reports would still show that he is involved in illegal activity,” Police Major Roland Pascual of Police Station 6 said.

The family of the victim cries for justice over the tragic incident. They also believed that Navarette II has already changed and became a better person.

Former boxing icon Rolando Navarette Sr. was known as the “Bad Boy from Dadiangas.” He ranked as the 9th best super featherweight champion in the history, according to the World Boxing Council.
