Citizen’s Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Partylist Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva aired his opposition against the SOGIE bill during a privilege speech on Wednesday.

KAMI learned that for Villanueva, the bill which aims to protect the LGBTQ community will promote “special rights” to its members and not “equality.”

“Let it be put to record that this representation is in opposition to SOGIE bill. [In] its current form and provisions, I believe, [it] will not promote equality but will, instead, unduly give special rights to some members of our society at the expense of the rights of other members and to the detriment of the social order in our community,” Villanueva said, as reported by the Inquirer (author Daphne Galvez).

The lawmaker also pointed out that the proposed measure will undermine the “roll of parents in the family,” "imperils freedom of speech and religion,” and “threatens academic freedom.”

It has been reported that Villanueva has filed House Resolution 270 to probe the incident of transgender woman Gretchen Diez and the janitress working at the Farmers Plaza.

Villanueva said that it is also important to know the side of the janitress, “whose side has not yet been comprehensively heard.”

The issue at the Farmers Plaza stemmed from the incident when a janitress barred Diez from using the ladies' restroom.

In a previous report by KAMI, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said that the SOGIE bill has no chance in passing the Senate due to some provisions.

Eduardo "Brother Eddie" Cruz Villanueva is an evangelist and the president-founder of Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide. He recently became a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
