- He said that it is necessary to lessen the intake of rice

Senatorial candidate and health expert Doc Willie Ong explained the negative effects of eating an excessive amount of rice daily. KAMI learned that eating plenty of rice may lead to high sugar level or diabetes and overweight.
“Ang mapapayo ko sa mga diabetic o sa overweight: Bawasan ang kanin. Bakit? Dahil ang kanin ay nakatataba at nakatataas ng antas ng ating blood sugar,” he said.
Doc Willie explained that there are good carbohydrates and bad carbohydrates. The good carbohydrates are those that do not contribute to high sugar levels like vegetables, fruits, wheat bread, and spaghetti. Meanwhile, bad carbs are rice, potatoes, and white bread.
“Ang mahilig sa rice ay lumalaki ang bilbil. Ngunit kung tinapay ang hilig, mas payat sila,” Doc Willie said.
Instead of eating rice for breakfast, Doc Willie said that it is better to have three pandesals and tuna.

“Eh kaya nga tayo tumataba, di ba? Nakita niyo na ba ang 1 cup rice sa Jollibee. Yung ganoong kakaunti lang ay sapat na. Damihan mo na lang ang gulay tulad ng repolyo, ampalaya at kangkong,” he said.
