Because of this, the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate took a swipe at her critiques and exclaimed that she could have received more negative comments if her post was really incorrect.

She sarcastically emphasized that the people in the Philippines must be “perfect” to avoid criticisms and below-the-belt statements from other individuals.

“What if mali talaga ang na post mo no? Siguro doble pa makukuha mong hate comments. Kailangan perfect ka talaga no pag nasa Pilipinas ka,” she quipped.

“Kailangan perfect ka talaga ‘no ‘pag nasa Pilipinas ka,” the celebrity added.

One of Maris’ followers defended the young actress and explained that she just used double negatives to mean “hindi pwedeng hindi magshop sa Penshoppe.”

She was also able to relate the issue during Shakespeare time when double negatives were considered “emphatic” and correct.

“A double negative is the nonstandard usage of two negatives used in the same sentence so that they cancel each other and create a positive,” the netizen said.

“In Shakespeare’s day, double negatives were considered emphatic, but today they are considered grammar mistakes,” she added.
