These 15 Philippine actresses were once 'kontrabida' but were given their chance to have a lead role in a TV series.
Most of the actors and actresses have to start doing support roles or the antagonist of a show.
It is a stepping stone so as a celebrity's acting talent would get noticed by the directors and the viewers.
However there are those who were lucky enough to have a lead role as they start their showbiz career.
Check out these 15 stars who were once kontrabida but managed to shine and land their lead roles as the protagonists.
1. Liza Soberano
Liza began her career playing kontrabida roles in teleseryes like Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo and Got To Believe.
Her big break came when she got chosen to top bill Forevermore where she was paired with Enrique Gil.
2. Arci Muñoz
Arci played 'kontrabida in the tv series, Princess Charming (2007), Pati Ba Pintig ng Puso (2007), Maging Akin Ka Lamang (2008), Ngayon at Kailanman (2009), and Langit sa Piling Mo (2010).
She got her major lead roles when she transferred in TV 5 where she top billed Felina: Prinsesa ng mga Pusa (2012) and Undercover (2013).
Her lead role when she transferred to the Kapamilya network in 2015 was in the remake of Pasion de Amor and Magpahanggang Wakas in 2016.
3. Katrina Halili
She played as the villain in 2005 version of Darna starring Angel Locsin.
She also played the role of Angelika Santibañez in GMA-7's remake of MariMar, starring Marian Rivera in 2007.
Katrina got her first lead role in a teleserye in 2008, which was the afternoon series Magdusa Ka.
Since she is a very effective kontrabida, she had more kontrabida roles than playing the role of a good girl.
She also did villain roles in shows like Munting Heredera (2011), My Beloved (2012) and The Stepdaughters which is aired every afternoon at GMA 7.
4. Erich Gonzales
Erich played as the third wheel to Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson in the teleserye Sana Maulit Muli.
Her first major role was her top-billed show Katorse, follwed by many other TV series.
Currently, Erich plays triplets in the early prime-time series The Blood Sisters, where she portrays three different characters.
5. Jodi Sta. Maria
Jodi started playing major roles but did a villain role to Anne Curtis in Kampanerang Kuba in 2005 and in the Claudine Barretto-Piolo Pascual starrer Walang Kapalit in 2007.
The daytime series Be Careful With My Heart which is a top rater lasted for 2 years and paved way for Jodi to achieve the leading lady status.
This was followed by a lead role in the remake of Pangako Sa 'Yo in 2015.
And now in Sana Dalawa Ang Puso along with Robin Padilla and Richard Yap.
6. Sofia Andres
Sofia got her break when she played third wheel to Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil in the drama series Forevermore.
Her first major role is in the afternoon series Pusong Ligaw which aired three years after 'Forevermore.'
She is now part of Kapamilya's fantaserye Bagani.
7. Megan Young
Megan played the kontrabida in the remake of I Love Betty La Fea as Marcella when she transferred to the Kapamilya network.
When she returned to GMA-7 in 2015 after her Miss World win, Megan took on several leading lady roles, including the title role in the modern adaptation of MariMar.
8. Julia Montes
Her acting skills was noticed when she played as the villain Clara in the remake of Mara Clara in 2010 with Kathryn Bernardo.
She was then paired with Coco Martin who is rumored to be her boyfriend in the series Walang Hanggan.
Julia later played both took onthe bida and kontrabida role as twins in the afternoon series Doble Kara in 2015.
She is currently the lead star of the afternoon series Asintado.
9. Bela Padilla
Some of her kontrabida roles were in Endless Love (2010), Sisid (2011), and Hiram na Puso (2012).
In October 2012, Bela was given her first title role via the afternoon series Magdalena.
She had been Coco Martin's first Leading Lady in Coco Martin in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano in 2015 when it first started.
10. Christine Reyes
Christine played the role of Molecula in Angel Locsin's version of Darna in 2005.
She also did kontrabida roles in the shows Super Twins (2006) and MariMar (2007).
Her first major role was in the remake of Eva Fonda when she transferred to ABS-CBN in 2008.
My Cheating Heart (2009), Kristine (2010), Reputasyon (2011), Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin (2012), and Tubig at Langis (2016) were among the TV series where she played the lead role.
