News of his passing was posted and announced by GMA Entertainment News.

ABS-CBN reported that after news of his demise got out, friends, colleagues, and associates, immediately came out with messages of sympathies and condolences.

His colleagues like production designer Jay Custodio remarked in an FB post how today is a sad day for him because one of the finest directors he has worked with has crossed the great divide.

“It's a sad day today, one of the finest and kindest director that I've worked with just passed away,” Custodio said.

He also offered a tribute and prayers for the Direk Phillip, saying that he would surely be missed.

“He is also one of the sweetest and supportive director! Praying for the repose of your soul Direk Philip Lazaro! You will be missed,” Custodio further wrote.

The production designer then expressed his gratitude for the laughter he and Direk Phillip shared when the latter was still alive.

“Thanks for all the laughs and chikahan! Love you Direk,” Custodio said in parting.

According to Inquirer, his family has yet to release a statement on the cause of his death.

Phillip Lazaro is an actor and comedian who rose to fame after performing various roles in movies and TV series. Phillip is also known as one of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in the country. He used to perform at the now-closed Klownz and Zirkoh where several performers went on to make success in the Philippine entertainment industry.

Phillip was one of those who asked for help for Pinoy comedian Kim Idol who was found unconscious inside the Philippine Arena. At the time, Phillip informed everyone through his social media page that Kim is on life support at the Manila Central University Hospital in Caloocan City.

He was also one of the performers at the Klownz and Zirkoh, a comedy bar owned by Allan K, which is located in Quezon City. When the establishment announced that it's going to be closed, Phillip posted a heartfelt message on his FB account. He asked for prayers for the performers and staff at the Klownz and Zirkoh and at the same time, expressed his gratitude to their bosses at the club's patrons.
