Manny Pacquiao became the first among those who expressed their intention to run for president in next year’s presidential elections to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the position on Friday, October 1.
The senator’s running mate, Buhay Partylist Representative and former Manila mayor Lito Atienza also filed his COC for VP, making him also the first to file COC for the position.
Among those who accompanied Manny in his filing were Sen. Koko Pimentel, Vice-Mayor Buboy Fernandez, Atienza, and Manny’s wife, Jinkee.
Manny surprised everyone when it was revealed that Rep. Atienza would be his running mate.

It was also revealed during his filing that both of them would be running under the banner of the Promdi Party.
When asked why he chose Atienza to be his running mate, Manny said he handpicked the former Manila mayor because of his long experience in public service in both administrative and legislative arm of the government.
The senator was also asked if his running under the Promdi Party meant he’s leaving PDP-Laban.
Manny answered in the negative, saying that he will remain with PDP-Laban, adding that PDP-Laban has coalesced with the Promdi Party for next year’s elections.

Since there are still problems that needed to be resolved at PDP, he and some of his colleagues decided that it would be better for him to run under the Promdi Party.
Sen. Manny promised that if he wins, he will focus on improving COVID-19 pandemic response, boost internet connectivity, poverty alleviation, provide sufficient power supply, and put an end to corruption by jailing erring officials.
Manny Pacquiao is an eight-division world boxing champion, considered one of the greatest boxers in history. He also found success as a politician, first becoming a congressman before getting elected as a senator. Manny is married to Jinkee Pacquiao, whom he called his best friend.

The senator, along with a long convoy of vehicles, rode his huge campaign bus to Hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City. During the Q&A after he submitted his COC, Manny revealed that he will be running under the banner of the Promdi party, saying that his PDP-Laban faction has coalesced with Promdi.
The huge bus that Sen. Manny Pacquiao rode in going to the COC filing venue caught the crowd’s attention, particularly the words emblazoned on its side. Prominent among them are the words “Man of Destiny.” The “Man of Destiny” caption are in white and red letters, with the first three and last two letters colored in red, which when concatenated, would bring forth the word “Manny.”
