Filipina-American model Kelsey Merritt shot back at netizens who created an issue over her representation in the prestigious Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

KAMI learned that the issue started after the announcement was made regarding Kelsey being able to make it to the said event.

Netizens criticize the model for looking more of a European woman rather than a Filipina or Filipina-American.

There were comments saying that Kelsey does not deserve the title of being the first Pinay to walk the runway because of her looks.

Some also expressed that there are more deserving models who truly have the face and aura of a Filipina girl.

“A European looking Pinay walking for Victoria’s Secret???? Shocking! Call me when someone who actually looks traditionally Filipino does it,” said one of the netizens who disapproved Kelsey's upcoming stint in the show.

Kelsey also bravely took to social media her response to defend herself.

She said that the Philippines is her hometown since she was born here and raised in one of the provinces in Central Luzon.

Kelsey told that she even studied in Manila before she went to the United States last year.

"Pinanganak ako sa Pilipinas at lumaki ako sa Pampanga. Tinapos ko ang pag-aaral ko sa Manila bago ako lumpia sa US last year," she wrote.

The model claimed that she is a true Filipina more than those who are pure-blooded but have never set their feet on the country’s soil.

"Mas Pinoy pa ang dugo ko kesa sa mga 'pure' na hindi pa nakatapak sa Pilipinas," she remarked.

"I love my country and I'm proud of where I came from," she concluded.

In a previous article by , the model proudly announced that she made it to the prestigious show after rigorous screening process.

Born on October 1, 1996, Kelsey took the spotlight when she appeared in an advertisement of Maybelline cosmetic company. Her mother is a Filipina while her father is an American citizen.
