In an interview with Star Cinema, Gerald was asked what advice would he give to "Tupe," his character in Init sa Magdamag.

The situation given to the actor was one where he would be meeting his ex.
Gerald described such situation as awkward.
He emphasized respect as one of the things that must be taken into consideration.

"It's a very awkward situation. Kung sa totoong buhay, you just go back to always remembering na naging masaya kayo and you maintain the respect kahit anuman mangyari," said Gerald.
He then advised his own self to simply just go away especially if he could see that the present partner of the ex loves her very much.
"Lumayo na siya. Nakikita naman niya na mahal ni Peterson si Rita talaga. It’s a very awkward situation," he said.
"Kailangan physically lumayo ka because 'di mo kakayanin 'yun. Kahit nga 'di mo na mahal, ang awkward,” said Gerald.
It can be recalled that Gerald had a relationship with Bea Alonzo. The latter even said that the actor gaslighted her as per Rappler.
Gerald is already in a relationship with Julia Barretto. Previously, ABS-CBN reported that Julia said she is willing to turn her back from showbiz in exchange for a quiet family life.
