Pia Wurtzbach received backlash from Vietnamese fans after she tweeted a question about Vietnam having more pageant fans than the Philippines.

“Mas maraming pageant fans sa Vietnam kesa sa Pilipinas?” Pia asked.

Many Vietnamese fans thought that Pia was not convinced about Miss Vietnam Nguyễn Trần Khánh Vân receiving the highest number of votes from fans in the history of the Miss Universe pageant.

After learning about the backlash, Pia expressed her shock, saying that the Vietnamese fans misunderstood her tweet.

“Woah! Woke up to so many angry fans from Vietnam! I think some of you misunderstood my tweet last night! I didn't mean any harm by it at all,” the beauty queen tweeted.

According to Pia, she only tweeted that question because she got shocked that her belief about the Philippines having the most pageant fans in the world was proven wrong when Vietnam got the highest votes in history.

“For years I was told (and I believed) that the Philippines had the most pageant fans in the world. But yesterday Vietnam got the highest votes in history! Which meant I was wrong. Which surprised me! Thats it!! Thats all I meant by my tweet,” Pia posted.

Furthermore, Pia clarified that she was not doubting that Miss Vietnam received the highest number of votes ever.

“I wasn't being sarcastic or questioning your win at all! Hope this clears it up. Congratulations Vietnam for the highest votes in Miss Universe history,” she explained.
