Rabiya Mateo is making waves everywhere she goes, including the online world. As of Friday night, she breached the one million mark in terms of Instagram followers, making her the first Ms. Universe 2020 candidate to have accumulated such a huge following.
Although this does not automatically mean that the Ms. Universe 2020 title is in the bag, this new milestone gives her a big fighting chance for the crown.
Upon learning that her Instagram followers is now more than one million, Rabiya immediately took to social media to write a heartfelt post, thanking those who followed her, as well as those who urged friends and acquaintances to follow her.
“Woke up with 1 Million followers! You guys are the best. Sending love to the rest of the universe. Today is a big day. Please pray for us,” Rabiya wrote in an Instagram post.
Rabiya is ahead by almost 500K to the second highest Instagram followers, who is Ms. France Amandine Petit with over 567,000 following her.
The third is Miss Chile Daniela Nicolás with 529K Instagram followers, followed closely by Miss Thailand Amabda Obdam with 513K Instagram followers.

Rabiya Occeña Mateo is an Indian-Filipino model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Philippines in 2020. She is set to represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant, which will be held on May 16, 2021 in Florida. Rabiya was born on born November 14, 1996 to an Indian-American father and a Filipino mother who later separated.
Previously, Rabiya shared a glimpse of her signature walk called “Halabira Walk.” She showed it in a couple of videos posted by ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo who recently did a coverage on Rabiya’s preparation for Miss Universe pageant in May. Netizens then could not help commending the current Miss Universe Philippines title-holder’s stunning walk. The beauty queen from Iloilo named her walk “Halabira Walk” to pay tribute to her hometown’s Dinagyang Festival.
A few weeks ago, Rabiya Mateo proved just how genuine she is by showing her bare face. Unlike her other photos that portray her as a glamorous individual, this particular post showed her in a simple white dress with no make up. She also gave a message about those who judge others through their outward appearances. Many netizens praised her natural beauty, which they even called "phenomenal."
