Controversial musician and APO Hiking Society member Jim Paredes recently likened former President Ferdinand Marcos and President Rodrigo Duterte to a virus.
In a recent Twitter post, the musician uploaded a side-by-side photo of the two leaders and captioned the photo: “Original virus, new variant.”
The label above the two images indicated that Paredes is referring to Marcos as the original virus and Pres. Duterte as the new variant. The composer is a known Duterte critic and in the past has crossed swords online with the President’s supporters, several top government officials, and at times, even Pres. Duterte himself.
Many have always compared Duterte to Marcos due to their perceived strong-arm tactics in dealing with the day-to-day affairs of the government. Instead of getting angry at being compared with the former strongman, PRRD readily acknowledged that he is indeed like Marcos in more ways than one.
In many instances, the President extolled the performance of the Marcos administration, particularly its imposition of Martial Law. “The martial law of Mr. Marcos was very good,” PRRD said in his past speeches.
As expected, the reactions of netizens to the post of Paredes is divided. There are some who agreed with his post, while others disagreed with it. As of writing, the post has already gained 360 retweets, 36 quote tweets, and 2,168 likes.
