- Prominent personalities then reacted to it and recalled the agency’s corruption controversy
Some celebrities recently aired on social media their rants on the implemented increase in the contribution rate of Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) in 2021.
In a report by CNN Philippines, the agency explained that the increase is to "ensure sufficient funding for the health care of its 110 million members as mandated by Republic Act No. 11223 or the Universal Health Care Law."
According to GMA News, those earning below P10,000 shall have a fixed contribution of P350 per month. Members with at least P70,000 monthly earnings, on the other hand, is fixed at P2.450 a month.
Prominent celebrities then could not help condemning PhilHealth for implementing the contribution rate adjustment amid the controversies it currently faces.
“’Philhealth to increase contribution rate in 2021’. Pero... diba... may nawawala pang 15B? Bakit sa tao ang pagbawi imbis na imbesitgahan at pagbayarin ang mga kumurakot?” Bianca Gonzalez aired.
“Ninanakaw lang naman,” said Jason Abalos.
“Before I sleep... isang malutong na shutanginamez?!!?!!! Haaaay!!!! I kenat!!” K Brosas tweeted.
“Dagdag hulog sa Philhealth. Dagdag hulog sa SSS. Eh nasaan na yung ninakaw na 15B sa Philhealth? Ang lagay parang kami pang members ang mag-aambagan sa 15B,” DJ Chacha expressed.
“Aba sana man lang bago nagdagdag ng contribution sa Philhealth eh may managot sa nawawalang 15B.”
“Walang kabusugan ang mga buwaya sa lupa.”
PhilHealth was created to implement universal health coverage in the Philippines. However, it is being questioned recently because of the alleged anomalies in the agency.
In an earlier report by KAMI, a former official of PhilHealth and whistleblower claimed that some of its executive members stole about P15 billion from its funds. An official also said that it is possible for PhilHealth to be bankrupt by 2021 if the COVID-19 persists in the country.
Famous Filipino celebrities like Jim Paredes, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Bianca Gonzalez, also took to social media to frankly air their thoughts on this alarming news.
Duterte then threatened the PhilHealth officials involved in the alleged corruption. He mentioned that his Cabinet members will help him go after corrupt officials. He also said that those who are innocent should just keep working in the state-run firm.
