The Philippine General Hospital released a black-and-white photo that broke hearts on social media.
KAMI learned that the photo shows two tired COVID-19 frontliners sleeping on the floor of the said hospital.
The healthcare workers in the viral picture also had no choice but to wear their PPEs while sleeping.
“Two of our PGH healthcare workers resting in front of PGH ward 4. The sign to the left says ‘remain in your PPEs’,” the photo caption says.
Many netizens expressed their support and appreciation to all of the frontliners who are risking their lives in the country’s battle against COVID-19.
From FB user Anthony James: “These people deserve more than what they getting right now. I’m not talking about attention, honor, award, etc., but respect, the right to be heard, waaay better compensation and health coverage not just for them but for their family and also rest because for sure they are hundred or even thousand times tired compared to ‘us’ workers from different industry. Thank you Medical Professionals!”
From FB user Donna Rodrin: “Thank you medical frontliners for your dedication to your work! We appreciate your hardworks and sacrifices. We will continue to pray for all of you! Keep safe and strong!”
This picture went viral after President Rodrigo Duterte scolded some of the frontliners for supposedly wanting a revolution and for allegedly demeaning the government amid the pandemic. Duterte also advised nurses who want a bigger salary to enter the police force.
Recently, President Duterte delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address. Among the topics he discussed were COVID-19 response, the West Philippine Sea, education, and telecommunication companies. His SONA received mixed reactions, with some critics saying that he was not able to lay out a detailed plan in battling the pandemic.
He also heeded the call of healthcare workers for the government to provide more help in their battle against COVID-19. President Rodrigo Duterte did so by reverting several cities and provinces back to a modified enhanced community quarantine. The President also approved the hiring of more health care workers amid the pandemic and the addition of more benefits to COVID-19 frontliners.
