Japanese idol trainee Hirata Luna has died at the age of 8, with her passing announced by her agency, DIANNA Project, on September 28. The young trainee, who was part of the girls' idol project based in Nagoya, Japan, reportedly died from myocarditis resulting from influenza.

DIANNA Project shared the heartbreaking news in an announcement, expressing its sorrow over Luna’s passing and extending its gratitude to the people who supported her during her time with the agency.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Runa Hirata, a trainee with the DIANNA Project in Nagoya, due to myocarditis resulting from influenza,” the agency wrote in Japanese.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the fans who supported Runa Hirata and to everyone involved who provided their support," it continued.

The agency also asked the public to respect Luna’s family and give them privacy as they grieve her loss.

"Out of respect for the family's feelings, we kindly ask that you refrain from making individual inquiries, seeking interviews, or posting questions on social media regarding this matter," it added.

Luna’s family later shared more details about her passing through her social media account. They revealed that she died peacefully in the early morning of September 25.

"We deeply apologize for this sudden report. Ryusei Hirata passed away peacefully around 4:00 a.m. on September 25."

The family also expressed their gratitude to the fellow idols, fans, agency staff, and other people who supported Luna throughout her life and idol journey.

"To all the fellow idols who were kind to Ruyu during her lifetime, to the fans who supported Ruyu, to everyone at the agency who made Ruyu an idol, and to all the people who were involved with Ruyu, thank you very much."
