Song Young Kyu, a veteran South Korean actor celebrated for his role in the hit film Extreme Job and a range of successful streaming series, has died at the age of 55.

In a report by Soompi, Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province confirmed that Song was found dead inside a car parked in a residential complex in Yongin on August 4, around 8 a.m. KST. He was discovered by an acquaintance, who then alerted authorities

As reported by Yonhap News Agency, authorities confirmed that no signs of foul play were present and no note was recovered from the scene.

The actor had previously faced public scrutiny after being caught driving under the influence in June, which sparked controversy and led to his removal from several projects.

According to AllKpop, Song was allegedly caught drunk-driving on June 19 around 11 p.m., covering a 5-kilometer route in Yongin after drinking with friends. His blood alcohol level reportedly exceeded 0.08%, warranting license revocation. He was turned over to prosecutors without being detained.

Song Young Kyu began his acting career in 1994 with a children’s musical. Over the years, he appeared in various notable productions such as Reply 1988, Extreme Job, The Tale of Lady Ok, Destined with You, Narco-Saints, and Hyena.
