The tragic incident took place on February 13th at around 11:30 AM on the 12th floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Mall, as reported by The Straits Times.

A shocking video captured the moment when the massive glass panels from floor to ceiling shattered into countless pieces and crashed onto the ground.

According to Taiwan’s National Fire Agency, the explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak originating from a food court that was still under construction.

An evacuation was immediately implemented in the building, removing about 235 people from the building to safety.

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, in a Facebook post, said that several government offices were put into action to deal with the situation. This included the health ministry, which was in charge of organizing medical help for the people who were hurt.

President Lai called on officials to find out the reason for the accident as quickly as possible. He also asked the public to stay away from the area.

The other two suspects were first arrested by the police, and the victim's stepbrother was arrested after over a year.
